Most traffic providers like INRIX, Inc. and TomTom use the predictive model to collect traffic data, which involves traffic estimation and forecasting. However, several application providers are working on integrating crowd-sourcing into their platforms, a method which utilises a user's location in real time to provide traffic updates. Crowd-sourcing offers up-to-date real-time traffic data without delays. Waze is one of the popular navigation applications which uses crowd-sourcing to generate real-time traffic information. The future will see crowd-sourced input for traffic information integrated into data models for continuous statistical and preferences collection, which will result in personalisation of traffic services.

"As the industry moves towards the connected era, manufacturers and suppliers will constantly keep working in accordance to consumer demands for more credible navigation services, which will make driving easier," concludes Jayaraman.

Heat Poses Risk for Tire Heat

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 18, 2011 - With this year's record-breaking summer temperatures in much of the United States, the danger of heat-related road safety issues is magnified. One of the most common and most dangerous is the heat-related tire blowout. Mixing 100 degree temperatures with rubber tires and freeway speeds can add up to true danger on the roads. Here's how to avoid tire blowout disaster—and what to do if the worst happens.

Heat affects tires from multiple angles. Driving in the summer results in friction between your tires and the hot asphalt. The faster the speed, the more friction builds up and the more the temperature of the air filling your tire rises. Combine this with the fact that heat and friction cause asphalt to expand and crack, causing hazardous road conditions, and bmw M5 specification you have a recipe for a tire blowout.

Cracked asphalt can create sharp ridges that can damage your tires. The hot expanded air inside your tires will then attempt to rapidly escape its confines, potentially causing an explosion—a blowout—and a dangerous situation for driver, passengers and other vehicles on the road.

Manufactured by BP Australia, Opal fuel was introduced to the Australian market in 2005. Designed with lower levels of aromatics; the properties associated with giving petrol sniffers a 'high,' Opal fuel meets all the specifications of the National Fuels Quality Standard Act 2000. A combination of laboratory and field tests undertaken since 2005 indicate that Opal fuel is safe for use in cars and boats in which the manufacturer recomm 2011 Chrysler 200 Convertible ends regular unleaded 91. Details of the testing and results observed are outlined in this fact sheet.

Laboratory testing on vehicles - 2004 As with all BP fuel products, thorough testing and control processes were undertaken t android application o ensure the quality and performance automobile news of Opal fuel prior to its launch in 2005. This included independent laboratory testing at the Toyota Vehicle and Engine Testing Laboratory in Melbourne in October 2004. Three tests were undertaken on a Toyota Avalon 3.0 litre Automatic, a Ford Falcon Futura 4.0 litre Automatic and a Holden Commodore 3.5 litre Automatic.

Driveability test The driveability test measures the operation of a vehicle as perceived by a driver. The three cars were driven on Opal fuel by trained assessors and demerit points were assigned for noted performance issues. At the end of the test the points were tallied and compared to the points recorded by the same assessors driving the same cars on regular unleaded 91. The report found that there was no significant difference between a vehicle running on Opal fuel and the same vehicle running on regular unleaded 91.

Tailpipe emissions Using ADR 79/00; the standard testing design rule for measuring tailpipe emissions; Opal fuel was compared to regular unleaded 91. Emissions measured were unburnt hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and oxides of Nitrogen (NOx). Using the average of three runs, the tailpipe exhaust emissions for a vehicle running on Opal fuel were equal to or less than the tailpipe emissions of the same vehicle running on regular unleaded 91. The only exception was the Avalon which showed an increase in NOx. There are exhaust emission benefits from using Opal fuel. Overall, the cars that were run on Opal fuel tested lower for regulated exhaust emissions.

Impact on air quality When vehicle exhaust air toxics were calculated using the USA EPA air toxics indicator model, air toxics were reduced by 45% when using Opal fuel when compared with using regular unleaded 91. Because of its formulation with less than 5% total of benzene, toluene, xylene and olefins, Opal burns very cleanly when compared to regular unleaded 91, helping to reduce air toxics. Typical vehicle exhaust air toxics indices for regular unleaded 91 are 19-22. Opal fuel showed 9-12, a reduction of 45% versus regular unleaded 91.

Fuel economy in cars Opal was tested for fuel economy in line with the testing standard ADR 81/01, and compared to regular unleaded 91. Testing showed a minor decrease in fuel economy in cars between Opal fuel versus regular unleaded 91. However the reported variation of 0.3 litres per 100km is within the normal variability for petrol grades and can vary depending on car maintenance and driving styles.

Honda Salesman Slaps Back Consumer Reports over Review of 2012 Civic

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 02, 2011 - Consumer Reports released a brief report of the 2012 Honda Civic earlier yesterday. Obviously working at a Honda Dealership my assessment of their report is completely biased, but I must say I believe it's justifiably biased. Here are some of the key points regarding the Honda Civic review by Consumer Reports that stood out to me.

2012 Civic: Turbo CR states, "There are some competitors out there with low displacement turbo charged engines." Yes, there are cars out there with small turbo charged engines, but what CR doesn't state is those turbo charged engines typically require a higher grade fuel, which adds expense when at the pump vs. the regular 87 gasoline as required by the 2012 Civic. Additionally, the require raising chickens ment for a turbo would lead one to believe that it is needed for enhanced acceleration, but CR states in the same review "fuel economy is really impressive and acceleration is nothing to complain about either." Do you get the feeling here that CR is actually complaining about nothing? Don't worry. If you don't, read on.

2012 Civic: 6th Gearb CR also seems unhappy regarding the amount of gears in the Civic stating "A lot of those cars have 6-speed automatics, but the Civic only has 5." I'm not sure why CR seems obsessed with a 6th gear (added weight and cost) when the benefit to adding the 6th gear would be fuel economy and acceleration. If there is no benefit to adding a 6th gear in the Civic why would Honda want to include one? Isn't it impressive enough the Honda Civic commands 39 MPG EPA estimated highway with 5 gears? Engineering wise, the shortcut would be to slap a turbo inside (which is one more thing to break) and a 6th gear, but Honda didn't take those shortcuts. I wish CR would have stated what Honda lacked by not having a 6th gear, but they didn't. Why? Because like them. I couldn't think of a reason either.  

2012 Civic: Ride Quality CR also states "Road noise has traditionally been a Honda shortcoming. It's somewhat better in this version." Though Honda has improved road noise, CR actually seems unhappy with the improvement when just a few years ago when it awarded the previous generation Civic (one with more road noise) with a Top Pick. Starting to feel like CR used interns to review this car yet?

2012 Civic: Braking Distance In the middle of their review they throw out that "Braking distance is on the long side. Especially in the wet." That's all they said? What do they mean by "on the long side" and what is this being compared to? Where are the measurements? The 2012 Civic was recently named in May by the Institute for Highway Saftty (IIHS) a Top Safety Pick. Additionally, new for 2012 in the LX model they tested is VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) which now comes standard on every 2012 Civic trim level (not standard on the vehicle that won their Top Pick).    

2012 Civic: Two Tier Dash and Controls CR states the same duel tier dashboard still remains (the same sort of dash board system in place when it one CR's Top Pick) and CR continues on to state they are not pleased with it now because drivers would have to scan both tiers. CR then diminishes their negative comment by stating that it isn't important because the bottom tier generally contains non-essential driving information. Are you as confused by this as I am?

As for controls CR states "most controls are simple and we do wish the radio had two knobs instead of one." I'm not sure if CR would rather have a complex set of controls or not, but there are additional audio control features on the left side of the steering wheel that they failed to mention or possibly even notice?  Additionally, radio display information is located in a MID display of the upper tier dash (MID is new for 2012). Instead of radio display information being centrally located in the center of the dash it is located in the driver's field of vision. CR clearly being a company that doesn't like much eye movement throughout the dash should have noted this as a positive change for 2012, but they didn't. Nor did they mention other new enhancements such as the Fuel Economy Assist indicator or even the ECON button for that matter. It's as if they never noticed these things.  

2012 Civic: CR states the history of reliability is not expected to change Yet, they are recommending cars that don't have history of reliability such as the Chevy Cruz, Ford Focus, and Hyundai Elantra. CR had opened up their review with this, "The Honda Civic has been the class act of smaller cars. Buyers paid a little more for the Civic, but in return were getting a nicer car with known reliability and resale value." I hate to point out to CR, but that's exactly what you are getting. CR to my knowledge has never given a positive review of the Civic because its automobile news plastics were "soft" or "extra soft." In my opinion the Honda line is known for simplicity, yet suddenly CR seems to care less about what the Honda Civic is and always has been and more obsessed with attempting to re-engineer it into first drive audi a6 an entirely different car with more complex radio knobs and less reliable and more expensive components such as 6th gears and turbo charged engines. In this humble salesman's opinion: CR should stick to reviewing cars rather than re-engineering them and I should stick to selling them.

ŠKODA Achieves New Sales Record in the First Half of the Year

ŠKODA has achieved a new sales record in the first half of 2011. Compared to the first half of 2010, sales rose 20.1 percent worldwide to 454,700 units (January – June 2010: 378,700 vehicles). At the same time, the Czech manufacturer recorded the best June sales record of its history with 81,300 sol android application d vehicles (last year: 71,300) and a new monthly sales record for the fourth time in a row. The dynamic development of the brand in the growth markets continues unabated. Thus, sales in China reached a new record in the first half of the year. In Russia, ŠKODA has never sold as many new cars within a single month as it did in June.

"In the first half of the year, ŠKODA has shown a strong performance in all areas and in all regions," explained Jürgen Stackmann, the Škoda board member for Sales and Marketing. "In the first six months, we have succeeded to implement the growth strategy, which was begun last year, in impressive style and to deliver results. We are growing at a high rate and have created an outstanding basis for further increases. ŠKODA is well on track and continues to hit the gas pedal. In the coming years, the brand will introduce a number of new luxury car models in the markets and significantly expand its model range."

In an overall downward Czech market Škoda sold 5,400 vehicles in June. The Octavia and the Fabia are among the ŠKODA models with the highest demand in its home market and occupy the first two places in the statistics of new european car registrations in the Czech Republic.

In June, the brand also achieved high growth rates in other markets of Central and Eastern Europe. In the Ukraine, sales increased 64.8 percent. Poland rose 9.1 percent, Slovenia 52 percent.

In Western Europe, Škoda grew at double digits: With a plus of 11.1 percent, the brand was able to expand its market share and recorded sales of 35,100 units in June. Deliveries developed particularly well in Belgium with a plus of 48.2 percent and in the Netherlands with a plus of 38.8 percent. In Great Britain, sales rose 18.7 percent, in Denmark 15.8 percent, and in Switzerland 13.2 percent.

ŠKODA's growth dynamic continues to be high in the growth markets of Russia, India, and China. In the Chinese market, the manufacturer achieved a new half year sale Infiniti m hybird s record in the first six months of 2011 with raising chickens 112,200 sold vehicles. In June alone, deliveries in China rose 25.8 percent to 19,100 units. The Superb in particular was in hot demand as sales increased 42.7 percent. In India, ŠKODA grew almost 50 percent (plus 48.1 percent) in June, selling 2,300 units.

ŠKODA also maintains a high growth rate in other markets beyond Europe. Thus, the manufacturer reached a new monthly sales record in Australia in June.
